Description
The social media assistant is an entry-level position for a creative individual who wants to learn and practice social media marketing skills in a challenging, rewarding environment. The social media assistant will assist the owner of Stephanie Kirkland Art, LLC, with creating and sharing content on social media—primarily videos for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. With guidance from the owner on audience, potential strategies, best practices, and messaging, the social media assistant will be empowered to learn, experiment, apply new skills, and take ownership.
This position is intended to be creative and skill-building—equipping the social media assistant with valuable skills in social media marketing while growing the audience and reach of the business. Depending on agreed upon hours and workflow, typical work production will include the creation of 1-2 reels/completed videos per week.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Film various aspects of the art creation process
Compile and edit short videos, primarily for Instagram reels
Repurpose/edit videos for use on TikTok and/or YouTube
Edit videos for length, lighting/color, and to add elements such as music and text
Schedule social media content for posting
Research trends informing best practices (i.e., trending music, styles/templates, etc.)
Compile stats on content performance
Analyze (with assistance) content performance and make recommendations based on analytics
Brainstorm ideas for valuable and engaging content
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
College or graduate student who is currently enrolled in a bachelor or master’s degree program in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Creative Media, or other related field preferred.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Detail-oriented with the ability to complete assigned tasks on deadline
Interest in videography, video editing, and creative storytelling
High level of comfort and knowledge of the basics of social media, especially Instagram. Knowledge of TikTok and YouTube preferred.
Some level of comfort and/or knowledge of basic, video-editing practices, with a willingness to learn new skills and platforms
High level of comfort with technology required; knowledge of word processing and document sharing tools (such as Google Docs/Sheets/Drive or Box) preferred
Ability to conduct and compile basic research
Demonstrate a pleasant and professional manner
Ability to take direction from the artist, as well as work independently
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially to creating content that is respectful and inclusive of a wide variety of audiences
Interest and/or skills in writing, editing, photography, and/or graphic design a plus
Required Equipment
Access to a computer and/or smart phone with adequate storage space is required.
Access to a smart phone with a quality camera is a huge plus.
Specific free video-editing apps and social media scheduling/analytics tools will be recommended (and trained on) upon hiring.
Schedule
Flexible. Typical schedule may include 1-2 hours of meeting/in-person videoing weekly, plus flexible, on-your-own-time hours where you can complete projects independently at home. This position is expected to work approximately 5-10 hours per week.
Compensation
This entry-level position starts at $10-$15 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Exemplary performance (based on exceeding key metrics) will be rewarded with higher rates and/or bonus pay. This is a part-time position without benefits.
