Windswept—A Solo Exhibition
On exhibit at the Arts Council Gallery in Tuscaloosa’s Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center October 2-30
These paintings were created in response to the freedom I craved—and eventually felt—during the midst of social distancing and COVID-19. Inspired by a mid-summer road trip out West, these paintings mimic the sights and sounds from those travels—the rustling of leaves, the vibrancy of the dirt of the Colorado Plateau, the contrast and suddenness of greenery along the cliffsides, the flickering of light in the afternoon, and the respite and energy I felt while hiking and driving in new surroundings. They were a release of months of pent-up energy—bold, energetic, and free.

These paintings have lovingly hung on my own walls for several years now. When I look at these early paintings, I see the excitement I felt at the beginning of my journey three years ago. I see freshness. I see an overflowing of joy. I see the bright side of life and radiant optimism.
As my work shifts, I'd love for these paintings to be scattered throughout your homes to mark this early part of my journey, where I know they'll become more and more special as years go by.
Shade is the boldest of my early paintings, and in many ways it echos my current work. Just like the cool respite of shade on a hot summer’s day, Shade represents relief and respite—a true statement piece adding depth and boldness to any home.
