Refugio is the only painting inspired solely by my time hiking the Patagonia region of Argentina, where I stayed overnight at Refugio Frey, a backcountry hostel in the heart of the mountains. “Refugio” means shelter or safe place, which is what my time in Argentina felt like to me. The simplicity and soft light of this earthy painting mimic the warmth and wisdom I felt deep in an old-growth forest.
